On September 3rd to 4th, CIHA held its General Assembly successfully online. In spite of the Covid-19 pandemic and different time zones, 36 members from 29 countries all over the world attended the meeting.
At the first session of the meeting, members listened to the report on the CIHA activities in the past few years. The report was given by LaoZhu, who was the president of the CIHA. In the report, he summarized the projects that have been promoted since he took over the presidency in 2016. They are the CIHA official website, E-Journal, the publication of CIHA journal, Civil Aesthetic Education and a common database. Some of the projects have already worked smoothly, but some are currently blocked because of the pandemic. These projects have helped maintain connection between all the members and benefited the art history academia in the past five years. LaoZhu believes that with the effort of all the members in CIHA, these projects can be continued and all the prospects can be realized in the future.
After LaoZhu’s report, the scientific secretary of CIHA Jean-Marie Guillouët reviewed the CIHA scientific activities since the Tokyo General Assembly. Since then, CIHA has organized a three-day colloquium on “Art, Design and Society” in India, a two-day colloquium on “Toward the Future: Museums and Art History in East Asia” in Japan, and the first part of the 35th CIHA World Congress in Florence. He also presented the proceedings of the two colloquiums as well as the one of the 35th CIHA World Congress. After the review of the scientific activities, the administrative secretary and treasurer Tristan Weddigen gave a financial report on the financial status of CIHA.
During the first session, the next presidency, scientific secretary and administrative secretary were elected. Through voting, Marzia Faietti and Claudia Mattos will be co-president for the next three years. Jean-Marie Guillouët will continue the position as the scientific secretary. Marie Theres Stauffer will be the administrative secretary. LaoZhu will be the associate member of the Board.
The next session of the meeting focused on the situation of the 35th and 36th CIHA World Congress. Marzia Faietti reviewed the great time during the first part of the 35th Congress in Florence, presented the achievements of the Congress and showed details about the proceedings. Claudia Mattos explained the current situation of the coming second part of the 35th Congress in São Paulo. Despite the difficulties brought by the pandemic and two-times’ postpone, the committee planned to hold the second part of the 35th Congress in January 2022 with a hybrid model, which means around 150 scholars would attend the Congress in person while there would also be an online platform for the public. Young scholars with financial support are very welcome to apply for the on-site attendance to the Congress. After the report on the 35th World Congress, Laurent Baridon gave a brief report on the preparation work of the 36th World Congress.
The last session of the meeting paid attention to the new and returning national committees, the new representatives of current national committees as well as voting on the new member at the CIHA Board. Four national committees are accepted to return to or newly join CIHA, which are Portugal, Sweden, Georgia and Finland. Anupa Pande from the Indian committee was selected as the new member at the CIHA Board.
At last, the new co-presidents of CIHA Marzia Faietti and Claudia Mattos showed their gratitude to the last Board members and presented their vision of CIHA for the next three years. Through working together and with the leading of great members, CIHA would continue its great tradition, being the important international organization for the art history academia as well as leading the development of art history researches.
